Grey's Anatomy season 16: Everything you need to know
We've got the return date, casting news, and the biggest rumours from Grey Sloan Memorial.

What’s coming?
The new season will pick up right where season 15 left off, with Meredith, Richard and Alex all fired, DeLuca in prison and Jackson vanished in the fog.
From there the first episode will jump forward in time to what the promo suggests is Meredith doing court-ordered community service in hi-vis.
More crossovers?
One thing we do know, is that there will be more crossovers with Station 19 than ever before. ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke has confirmed that there will be "three or four peppered throughout the season".
There are also rumours of a crossover romance between a character from each show, which Burke says is an attempt to make the world feel "more blended".
Who's in the cast?
Ellen Pompeo is back along with all our favourites, including James Pickens Jr and Justin Chambers whose characters were fired alongside Meredith, and Jesse Williams who plays Jackson Avery. He might have disappeared at the end of the last episode, but his return must mean he survives the great fog somehow.
Meanwhile, Jake Borelli (Dr Levi Schmitt), Chris Carmack (Dr Atticus Lincoln) and Greg Germann (Dr Thomas Koracick) have all been promoted to series regulars.
Grey's will also welcome Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano for a guest appearance in a season 16 episode. Find out about the Charmed reunion here!
Which big name will return?
A Grey’s favourite could be returning to the show for season 16. Showrunner Krista Vernoff told TV Line she was “trying to get someone back”.
“There’s someone I’m hoping will make an appearance this year," she says. "It’s a real maybe. I’m trying.”
A TV Line poll revealed that fans most wanted Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) to make an appearance. But we have our fingers crossed for Christina Yang, who was played by Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh!
What about season 17?
It has already been confirmed that our faves from Grey Sloan Memorial will be back for another season, with Ellen Pompeo committed to sticking around for another year!
Coming back for a 17th season (and possibly more) means Grey's will beat ER's record for longest-running medical drama by at least 2 seasons.
Season 16 premieres Friday 27 September 7pm on TVNZ OnDemand. New episodes will be available weekly, same day as the U.S.
