Police are questioning two men about after the body of an unidentified man was found in south Auckland car park early on Sunday.
A homicide investigation was launched after the dead man, who had head injuries, was discovered by a passersby in the carpark of the Otara Shopping Centre about 4am.
He is believed to have been in a fight shortly before he died.
The car park is close to a nightclub but it is not known if the victim had been at the premises.
Detective Senior Sergeant Pete Jones says two men have been taken to the police station a few hundred metres along the road from the car park for questioning.
"I wouldn't say they are suspects at this stage...," he says.
He says the identity of the dead man, described as a Polynesian in his late 20s or early 30s, is still not known and police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
"It is likely this person will be missed, He won't have returned home this morning like he should have and we are hoping the public will be able to assist us in identifying him," says Jones.
The body was removed from the car park late this morning.
