Anna Kendrick plays Darby in Love Life

Anna is delightful as Darby

The funny and totally relatable Anna Kendrick plays Darby Carter, a woman in her 20s who is just discovering who she is. The series follows her from her first love and heartbreak, through all the things that happen on the way to finding the love that will last.

The story is on an epic scale

Darby’s story spans 8 years. We first meet her in 2012 as a naïve and insecure young woman who is looking for love. The 10 episodes show the formative years of Darby’s life and how each person she meets along the way helps shape her into the person she is meant to be.

It’s romantic but realistic

In her 20s, Darby goes through it all – real love, devastating heartbreak, one-night stands, and everything in between. It’s a modern romantic comedy, so it has all the warm & fuzzy moments of new love while also being entirely realistic and relatable.

The incredible wardrobe

One way you can watch Darby grow and change is through her wardrobe. Her taste and clothing develop as she does and sometimes change depending who she is with. Costume designer Jackie Demeterio told Popsugar everything she wears was a choice based on where she is at in her story. At the start she is casual and youthful in style but becomes “more sophisticated and cooler” when she’s dating an older man – and there are a few looks to covet along the way!

It’s narrated by an Oscar nominee…

Over the top of Darby’s journey floats the calming and reassuring voice of Oscar-nominated actor Lesley Manville, who hints at what’s to come along the way. This adds to the feeling that destiny is in control and everything in Darby’s life, even the heartbreak, happens for a reason.

Darby with her best friend Sara (played by Zoe Chao)

…and was made by a film and TV legend

Not only did Anna Kendrick serve as executive producer on the series, but so did director/producer Paul Feig. In TV, Feig was a producer on Freaks and Geeks, The Office and Nurse Jackie, and directed the films Bridesmaids, Spy, A Simple Favour and the 2016 Ghostbusters remake.

It’s light and funny and entirely too bingeable

From disasters in her dating life to the smart and silly conversations Darby has with her best friend and roommate Sara (Zoe Chao), Love Life is a delightfully addictive watch. If you sit down to watch one episode, you’ll be diving straight back in for more.

Plus, it’s just the beginning!

Planned as an anthology series, with a new character and star each season, this is just the beginning of Love Life. Season 2 is already in the works and it will be another story of love set in New York City. Rumour has it, season 1 character Darby will also pop up throughout the new story too.
