There is a tourist attraction missing from every United States guidebook - going to the movies.
Yes, you can see the same movies that you can at home, the popcorn isn't any cheaper and the carpet patterns are just as crazy.
But when the lights go down and the projector begins to whirr is when the real magic begins.
I went to see Man On A Ledge. As the title suggests its about a man on the edge of a building threatening to jump off.
Without giving too much away, what followed was simply outstanding, and I'm not just referring to what happened on screen.
The movie took you through a range of emotions. There were scenes of despair, of suspense and of jubilation. And at every turn the audience reacted like I have never seen an audience react before.
People had their hands over their eyes, on their heads, they huddled into their partners arms, some yelled at the screen, stood up and fist pumped while others clapped.
None of that is an exaggeration.
I've seen a lot of movies at cinemas over the years - funny movies, sad movies, terrible movies (Tree of Life I am looking at you) - but never before have I seen a New Zealand audience react anything like that.
It was as if this American audience was mimicking a laugh-track I couldn't hear.
Days later Superbowl viewers showed this experience wasnt just limited to the cinema.
The rollercoaster ride that was the New York Giants come-from-behind win proved their fans to be vocal, passionate and totally engrossed in the action.
Once again there was yelling at the screen, hands in the air and wild clapping. This wasn't just a small group of captivated fans but the whole bar, in fits of excitement.
The party atmosphere erupted into Times Square where fans gathered to whoo-hoo and take photos of each other whoo-hooing.
They assembled on a set of stairs in the middle of the square as if it was a stage, putting on the perfect performance for the tourists watching on.
They chanted proudly that the Giants were world champions - maybe the fans aren't so perfect after all.
