  North Island, showers developing from Taranaki and Taihape southwards in the morning, a few afternoon and evening showers further north, but dry in Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula. South Island, showers in most places, but clearing in Fiordland.

• Saturday

  North Island, a few showers, but becoming fine from Taranaki to Kapiti. South Island, mostly cloudy in the south and east, with a few showers north of Dunedin, fine elsewhere apart from a few showers about the ranges.

• Sunday

  North Island, a few showers, but mainly fine from Taranaki to Kapiti. South Island, fine or becoming fine in most places, but isolated afternoon and evening showers inland.

• Chatham Islands

  Mostly cloudy, with a few showers on Saturday. Southwesterlies developing early Saturday, fresh for a time.

• The North Island, excluding Gisborne to Wairarapa

  Mainly fine today, but isolated showers north of Taihape until tonight. Tomorrow, fine spells, but isolated afternoon showers for Northland and eastern Bay of Plenty.

• Gisborne, Hawkes Bay

  Drizzle patches, clearing tomorrow.

• Wairarapa, coastal Marlborough

  Areas of cloud, clearing tomorrow.

• The remainder of Marlborough, also Nelson and Buller

  Mainly fine. Isolated showers inland today. Scattered rain for Buller tomorrow evening.

• Westland, Fiordland, also Canterbury high country

  Cloud increasing and rain developing in Fiordland today. Rain spreading elsewhere tomorrow, and easing to showers in Fiordland.

• Canterbury Plains

  Areas of cloud clearing tomorrow morning, but a few showers tomorrow evening.

• Otago, Southland

  Mainly fine today, but cloudy in North Otago and afternoon showers possible for inland Southland. A period of rain tomorrow, followed by showers.

• Chatham Islands

  Few showers.
