The Warehouse is stripping all its tents off its shelves so they can be flown to China to provide shelter for that country's earthquake victims.
Twelve thousand tents have been pulled from stores across New Zealand in the past week.
The move came after the Chinese Embassy approached the Warehouse seeking to buy as many tents as possible.
Warehouse Chief Executive, Ian Morrice, says as soon as they got the request, they recalled all stock and offered the lot to the embassy at a substantial discount on the purchase price.
He says the irony is all the tents were originally manufactured in China.
