About the show
How safe is your home?  TV2's new local show, To Catch A Thief will teach you about crime prevention from the experts.  Each Thursday at 7.30pm, two former thieves will put the security of Kiwi homes to the test.

Abe and Veronica are two ex-thieves who have been recruited for one last job.  But this time, these two reformed criminals are on the right side of the law.  Each week Abe and Veronica select a property that is a sitting duck for potential burglars.  To highlight the property's weaknesses - and to shock the homeowners into taking their security more seriously - either Abe or Veronica will break-in before the owner's very own eyes.

Following the break-in, the presenter who wasn't a part of the burglary will give the house a full security overhaul.  New locks, deadbolts and alarms will be installed and novel security tricks will be revealed.

But sound as they are, such security devices only work if their use becomes second nature to the homeowner.  In order to check the homeowner's vigilance, the original burglar will return to the scene of the crime just weeks after the original burglary.  Will s/he be thwarted by the new security measures or will the homeowner have forgotten to lock the back door?

Abe and Veronica are using their past knowledge to a more positive use, by teaching people how to best protect their home and property from opportunistic burglars.  Since doing time for their crimes, Veronica and Abe have turned their backs on crime to focus on family and solid work.  Abe, 23, manages his own business while looking after his three children.  28-year-old Veronica is kept busy raising her two children.  She also works part-time.

"Going into TV I had a whole lot of mixed emotions: excitement, doubt and fear," Abe says.  "I overcame these anxieties by looking at this as another challenge in my life.  Hopefully this show will be the wakeup call people need to take responsibility for their property, because otherwise it's likely it will be the burglar tapping them on the shoulder - not me!"

Veronica agrees.  "I hope the show will give everyone who wants to learn a better knowledge of security, and I hope it helps people to stay safe and feel safe.  I think it will be helpful for New Zealanders because it's been made by New Zealanders, for New Zealanders."
