‘Iwi should manage prisons,’ says former Mt Eden Prison worker

A former Mt Eden Prison worker is challenging the Government to give iwi authorities management of all NZ prisons. The troubled prison is now back under the control of the Corrections Department amid growing evidence of violence and mismanagement.

More resources needed for Māori speaking households

The Māori Language Week has kicked off with some good news and some bad news. On the downside, fewer Māori speak fluent Te Reo than a decade ago. On the upside, today’s toddlers may be the saviour of our native tongue with many young households choosing Māori as their first language, but the need for resources remains.
