Chevy Davis' whanau speak out

Published: 5:17PM Wednesday February 04, 2015

It’s almost been two months since 24-year-old Chevy Davis was killed at a 21st birthday party, but his family are still coping with the loss.

“He was welcoming, he loved his family, and to lose his life like that, it was heartbreaking.”

Davis’ younger brother, Fabian, remembers the tragic incident.

“I was scared at the time, eh. Once I saw my brother on the ground, I just ran. I ran away to get more help.”

Robert Timothy Rapana is facing charges of murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Mary Tiri Togiano is charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Both pleaded not guilty in court today. Rapana has been granted bail. They both will reappear in court on November 24.

Outside the court, Chevy Davis’ whanau made their anger heard.

“We’re gonna keep being the mouth for Chevy. If they don’t like it, they can say something. We don’t really care. Cause he’s not here anymore, so we gotta be his voice.”

“Just want justice for my brother, eh. That’s all. That’s all my brother wants.”
