Bring back Māori soldiers buried in Malaysia.

That’s the latest call from Māori Party president Naida Glavish following Veterans Affairs Minister Craig Foss saying there are no plans to review Government policy of not repatriating the remains of soldiers who died overseas between 1948 and mid-1970.

“The fallen of Malaysia are a special case, and deserve special consideration,” says Glavish who has made a personal appeal to the prime minister and his government to reconsider the calls from whānau for the repatriation of the remains of Māori men who fell in wars of South East Asia.

“It may be difficult for non-Māori to understand and appreciate, but for our people there is a keen and intense spiritual connection between the tūpāpaku of our dead and those of us who are left behind.”
