Tapu Te Ranga Marae

Founded in 1974 Tapu Te Ranga is a place of Maori spirituality. Built on the Maori principals of Tikanga, Kaitiaki and Manakitanga.
The Marae is a shared openly with peoples of all races all creeds. Set in 50 acres of regenerating native bush the tranquility of the place offers important insight into Maori values and traditions.
This micro documentary explores Wellington’s largest and tallest fully wooden marae, Tapu Te Ranga, situated in Island Bay and built solely from recycled materials. Over 15 people live at the marae which prioritises a multi-cultural community and intergenerational living.
