Smokefree Aotearoa 2025

Did you know Pacific people have the second highest smoking rate in the country? Pua Magasiva (Vinnie) and best mate Sela have teamed up in association with The Heart Foundation New Zealand and Pacific Heartbeat to create a Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 campaign aimed at Pacific individuals.

As part of their campaign the boys have created a number of videos to spread their message. Being brutally honest, Pua recounts his personal journey with smoking. He has been smoking on and off for over 10 years and had many reasons to quit but the main influence was his daughter Jasmine, so he could be around for as much of her life as possible.

Sela has had his own struggle with heart disease, undergoing major heart surgery in 2010. He knows that if he was to smoke, he would be putting himself at a far greater risk and could also miss out on being there for his three children, Kyan, Kaitlyn and Josh.

Pua and Sela met on the airwaves of Flava FM and their bromance has gone from strength to strength ever since. The pair kindly pointed out that if you don’t smoke you’ll be alive longer to listen to their show SnP Saturdays – 8-12pm on Flava FM and watch Pua on Shortland Street weeknights at 7pm on TV2.
