Shorty stars take on the Auckland Marathon

Kerry-Lee Dewing plays Kylie - Shortland Street on TV2

Shortland Street’s Kerry-Lee Dewing and Ria Vandervis are participating in this year’s Auckland Marathon for a very good cause, putting their efforts toward raising funds for The Foundation for Youth Development.

The Auckland Marathon is iconic on the New Zealand running calendar and fast gaining an international reputation. The Marathon is all set for this Sunday, 2nd of November 2014 and kicks off in Devonport, heading over the bridge and ending up at Victoria Park.

The marathon aims to raise funds for the favorite charities of each individual who partakes.

Kerry-Lee and Ria will run the Half Marathon in support of FYD, which is an organisation which aims to inspire all school-age children to reach their full potential through programmes that help build self-esteem, promote good values and which teach valuable life, education, and health skills.

“I am extremely nervous but know that I will pull through as I am running for such an awesome cause - The Foundation for Youth Development," says Ria. "The youth of today are the future of NZ, so it is important that they are nurtured and encouraged to grow up to be the best that they can be. FYD's crucial work in this area is invaluable, and I would love it if you could get in behind my run, and support this awesome charity."

Ria and Kerry-Lee have been preparing for the run for several months now and are looking forward to the challenge on Sunday, but are also super keen to raise as much money as possible for the cause.

“I'll do all the hard work; train for and complete this event, but we really do need your support to make a difference for FYD. The work that they do amongst our youth is invaluable. They provide our future leaders with tools to strive and reach their full potential,” says Kerry-Lee.
