How did you get your role on SS?

After 4 auditions for different roles, I got a call up out of the blue and they offered me the role of Alex (maybe they felt sorry for me!).

How long have you been acting and how did you get your first big break?

I decided to get into acting about four and a half years ago after hosting music TV show Top of the Pops. I really enjoyed presenting and it was a great place to start.

Then I got my first big break as an actor with a role on Power Rangers, I played a bad guy with special powers , it was a lot of fun.

Name three similarities between you and your onscreen character.

We both work with pharmaceuticals, we both love Melbourne, and we both have a Harry Potter -ish scar that flares up when danger is near.

What has been your best experience/scene on the show to date?

Having the security barriers at the entrance to Shortland Street recognize my car and automatically let me in.

Which other character would you like to be and why?

Bella, because she is quirky and funny, but mostly because I'd like to know what I would look like as a red head.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of SS?

On the weekends I love watching sport and supporting the local arts as much as possible; going to the theatre, to films, or to see a band. I also love cooking, eating, travelling, keeping fit and staying healthy.

What do you do in your down time during the day when you're not shooting?
When I'm not shooting, I'm learning my lines or working in my other job as pharmacist.

What is your favourite destination in NZ and overseas?

Home is Westport and there's no place like home as they say. Abroad I'd have to pick Thailand, the people are so warm and friendly and the food there is amazing.

How many brothers and sisters do you have, are they older or younger?

I have 2 sisters and 3 brothers, all younger than me.

What is your date of birth and what star sign are you?

The 9th of November which means I am a Scorpio - yeah!

Do you have any pets?

We have a 6-month old cat called Gus, he keeps us pretty entertained he's an expert tree climber and he likes to wrestle his toy dinosaur

Who is the actor or actress that you look up to or admire the most?

Daniel Day Lewis as he is one intense dude, he throws everything into his characters and delivers unbelievable performances.

What is the thing you enjoy most about going to work everyday?

That fact you get to work with amazing people and create something in the moment that is captured forever, that hopefully people enjoy.

What has been your favorite scene to film in your time at Shortland Street?

That's a tough one, it's all been great, but the most memorable scenes are the ones when we've all had a good laugh at the end, sometimes at my expense - I had a few blooper moments, including one when I broke a hospital door and it hit me in the head.

Do you watch Shortland Street at home? If yes, is it strange seeing yourself on television or are you used to it?

I watch Shortland Street at home when I can and these days I don't mind seeing myself on TV. But whilst hosting Top of the Pops I used to break out in a major sweat  when I heard the intro music begin, it made me cringe so much!

What is your favourite food?

Thai food. I love the flavours and spice and its fast and easy to cook. I went to a Thai cooking school the last time I was in Thailand.

What is your favourite television programme and/or film of all time?

Outrageous Fortune as it so well written, the characters are great and its kiwi! My favourite movie would be Moulin Rouge; I'm a sucker for a good musical.

Are you from Auckland or did you move here to film Shortland Street? Where did you grow up?

I moved to Auckland from Wellington 6 years ago when I got the role of hosting Top of the Pops.  But I grew up in Westport.

Which other actors/actresses do you like working with the most and why?

Everyone I've worked with so far has been great. Everyone's different and brings their own unique and interesting elements to the experience; I'm just soaking it all up.

Have you made any good friends amongst the cast and crew?

All the cast and crew are awesome and I love them all.

What's the best experience you've had with a fan/fans?

I got recognised the other day at a check out in Pak 'n Save by a 75 year old pensioner. He wanted to know  if my character dies and whether Brooke is a good kisser!

What's the strangest experience you've had with a fan/fans?

I received an interesting proposition once on K Rd from one of the colourful locals when I was withdrawing some money from a cash machine. I politely declined and then we talked about Moulin Rouge for a while before he/she(?) had to go see a client.

Can you remember your first day on Shortland Street - what was it like?

It was a gentle introduction, as I only had to shoot one scene on my first day. So I wandered the halls saying hi and bonding with the other cat lovers at Shortland Street.
