In a nutshell, what does your job entail?
Camera operator at Shortland Street (I shoot people for a living)
How did you find yourself at Shortland Street?
To be honest, I actually wanted to be an actor growing up. After learning more about the industry, I found more interest in being behind the camera. So I got a diploma and next thing I know, I’m at Shorty.
A typical day at work for you involves….
Reading scripts for the day (139 pages)…twice. Drinking a lot of coffee, turning 'dreama' into drama through a lens.
How long have you worked at Shortland Street now?
On and off for four years.
What do you love most about the job?
The people I get to work with (cast and crew). Being able to tell people about working here.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Finding the right time to visit the toilet, as we are required on set for most of the day.
What advice could you give people who would like to pursue a career in your field?
Be prepared to work for free. Never give up… ATTITUDE! Most importantly, learn to make coffee and like coffee (you will need it). Network well.
