Pops Ultimate Star

Joe Cotton

Winner - Popstars

Joe Cotton (28) has been singing in bands since she was 13, and always dreamed of being a star. In 1999 she was chosen out of 600 hopefuls for the TV2 show Popstars.

"I was working in a music store and singing in a band at the time" she explains. "Getting into True Bliss was pretty exciting, as was every performance we did together."

The show launched five member all-girl group True Bliss, who became an overnight commercial success in New Zealand, topping the charts with their first single "Tonight' and a nationwide 'Number One Tour'.

Their debut album dream went platinum, but the band broke up after Carly Binding left to pursue a solo career.

Joe joined Auckland dance band The Mermaids, and has made a successful career in television. She starred on the TV2 hit series' Treasure Island and Shock Treatment, and was a guest performer with other members of True Bliss on So You Wanna Be A Popstar.

She currently has a fill-in presenting role on music channel C4, and hosts her own show on The Edge radio station from 10-2 weekdays.

Joe says music is her greatest achievement in life.

"I've made a living out of something I love!" she says. "And I'm still getting work after all these years. I've been singing since I was 13 - that's a long time to be doing this as a career. I'm proud of that."
