Labour Party frontbencher David Parker's to take a tilt at Epsom.

The list MP has confirmed he will be taking on National's Paul Goldsmith and Act's John Banks at the general election.

Parker said he made the decision to stand because he does not want to see Act win the seat and Don Brash and John Banks get into Parliament

"I think their vision for New Zealanders is divisive and repugnant as the other extreme in New Zealand politics which is Hone Harawira at the other end. I want to show to the people of Epsom that there is an alternative out there that is credible," he said.

However he still has some paperwork to do.

Labour Party headquarters say it has yet to receive his nomination papers.
