2012 New Zealand Trotting Cup at Addington Raceway
Tuesday November 13 2012
Race 10, 5.15pm
1 X 1 Zenola Seelster (1) Lt Trainer: Geoff Small Driver: Philip Butcher: Untested against this calibre of opposition and may not make the field. Hard to have although did finish fourth in the race last year. Odds $201.
2 1121 Caribbean Blaster (2) Lt. Trainer: Andy Gath. Driver: Kate Gath. In-form Australian visitor who is in terrific form of late. Generally a good beginner and will add a huge amount of interest to race from this handy front-row draw. Keep safe. Odds: $10.
3. 121 Terror To Love (3) Lt. Trainers: Graham & Paul Court. Driver: Ricky May. Has an impeccable formline going into this year's event and is definitely the hardest to beat. Scored dominant wins in the New Brighton Cup and Ashburton Flying Stakes. The one to beat and must have in combinations. Odds: $2.40.
4 4852 Major Mark (4) Lt. Trainer: Mark Purdon. Driver: Colin de Filippi. Improved run in the Kaikoura Cup when finishing good second. However, the 3200m trip is a worry and place chances look best. Odds: $41.
5 2711 Sushi Sushi (5) Lt. Trainer: Mark Purdon. Driver: Natalie Rasmussen. Has been in tremendous form of late and peaking at the right time for this event. Won the Kaikoura Cup in track record time which bodes well to prospects here. Odds: $11.
6 3231 Mah Sish (6) Lt. Trainer: Tim Butt. Driver: Anthony Butt. Recovered well from recent setback to win in fine style last week and on the strength of that performance can figure in finish here. Very tough stayer. Odds: $13.
7 X114 Franco Ledger (7) Lt Trainer: Hamish Hunter. Driver: Hamish Hunter. Has really come into his own of late and was most impressive in winning the Hannon Memorial. Has each-way prospects here provided he has some luck in the running. Odds: $7.50.
8 1103 Fly Like An Eagle (8) Lt. Trainer: Mark Purdon. Driver: Mark Purdon. Breeders Crown champion who has been racing against top fields. Has ruined chances last two starts by galloping early so will have to improve manners here. Odds: $7.50.
9 5569 Stunin Cullen (9) Lt. Trainer: Tim Butt. Driver: Dexter Dunn. Was at his best when favourite for the Cup two years ago but could only manage seventh on that occasion. Latest form not that great and will have to improve sharply to have any chance here. Odds: $41.
10 8026 Mach Banner (10) Lt. Trainer: Robert Dunn. Driver: John Dunn. Handy type whose two runs this campaign have been against weaker fields and will have to up his act here to be any sort of a chance. Needs a scratching to make field but task looks a bit hard. Odds: $101.
11 9114 Pure Power (11) Lt. Trainers: Dave & Claire McGowan. Driver: Todd MacFarlane. On the improve but overall this looks a bit too tough for him. Others in field preferred. Odds: $61.
12 4718 Ohoka Texas (12) Lt. Trainer: Mark Jones. Driver: Mark Jones. Not racing particularly well and unlikely to test rivals here. May not be amongst the starting line-up as under offer to United States interests. Odds: $101.
13 X085 Donegal Delight (13) Lt. Trainer: Cran Dalgety. Driver: To be advised. Capable mare who has shown plenty of ability on occasions but will be tested to the maximum here and may be out of depth. Odds: $201.
14 3557 Highview Tommy (14) Lt. Trainer: Mark Purdon. Driver: Blair Orange. Proven over this distance and usually a safe beginner so his chances look solid. Went a mighty race in this event last year when third and a repeat of that sort of form can see him in the firing line at the finish again. Odds: $41.
15 5169 Gold Ace (15) Lt. Trainer: Steven Reid. Driver: Tony Herlihy. Classy horse who comes into this race with some mixed lead-up performances. However, on his day is capable of winning and should be included in multiple combinations. Form is better than it looks. Odds: $11.
16 2284 Jarcullembra (16) Lt. Trainer: Geoff Small. Driver: David Butcher. Has been racing okay but will require some improvement to be a major threat here. Goes best when not used up in the running and has a sharp sprint at the end of his races. Odds: $31.
17 X312 Pembrook Benny (17) Lt. Trainer: Barry Purdon. Driver: Zac Butcher. Lead-up form this year has been first class and good second last time behind this year's favourite Terror To Love. This will be fourth attempt at the race with best effort being a fourth placing in 2009. Odds: $31.
18 X688 Auckland Reactor (18) Lt. Trainers: Mark Purdon & Grant Payne. Driver: Maurice McKendry. Has had a frustrating Cup preparation and will have to be taken on trust here. Went terrific race first-up this campaign but injured a foot second-up and then got skittled at the start last time. Odds: $15.
