Ernst Stavro Blofeld

Affiliation: head of SPECTRE (No.1)

Background/Character: A criminal mastermind, Blofeld is 007's arch enemy. He is the head of SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) and his ultimate goal is world domination and the death of Bond.

He consistently changes his appearance and has been bald, grey haired, dark haired and has had a distinctive large scar running down his face. He favours austere high collared jackets and is often seen stroking his white Persian cat.


From Russia With Love (1963) 

Played by: Anthony Dawson, voice by Eric Pohlmann (seen only in lower half - stroking a white persian cat)

Objective: Steal a Russian encryption device and get revenge on Bond for the death of Dr No.

Henchmen: Rosa Klebb, (with poison tipped shoes) Donald "Red" Grant (garrotter), Kronsteen (chess master), Morzeny

Hideout: has a secret training facility in an unknown location

Encounter with Bond: Sends henchmen Red Grant and Rosa Klebb to kill Bond.


You Only Live Twice (1967)

Played by:
Donald Pleasence

Objective: Provoke a war by capturing spacecraft from USSR and USA and framing the other country for their theft.

Henchmen: Mr Osato (head of Osato Chemicals), Helga Brandt/No.11 (Mr Osato's secretary), Hans (Blofeld's bodyguard)

Hideout: Base hidden inside an island volcano near Japan (with piranha tank and self destruct button), cargo freighter the Ning Po

Encounter with Bond: Bond attempts to infiltrate Blofeld's volcano lair by donning a spacesuit, but his lack of skill with the suit reveals him as an impostor.


On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

Played by: Telly Savalas

Objective: Posing as a Swiss allergy clinic to brainwash women to unleash a virus to destroy crops across the world.

Henchmen: Irma Bunt (who executes Tracy Draco), Gunther (killed by Tracy when she impales him during a struggle) brainwashed "Angels of Death"

Hideout: Research institute in the Swiss Alps

Encounter with Bond: Bond infiltrates Blofeld's institute as genealogist Sir Hillary Bray who has been hired to research Blofeld's claim to be a Count.


Diamonds Are Forever (1971)

Played by: Charles Gray

Objective: Using smuggled diamonds to create a giant laser satellite with which to threaten the world.

Henchmen:  Mr Wint and Mr Kidd, Bambi and Thumper, Bert Saxby, Professor Metz

Hideouts: The Whyte House hotel and casino, Las Vegas. Oil rig off the coast of California

Encounter with Bond: Seeking retribution for the murder of his wife Tracy, Bond hunts down Blofeld. However the man Bond kills is really one of Blofeld's many surgically altered look-alikes.


For Your Eyes Only (1981)

Played by: John Hollis and voice by Robert Rietty.

Blofeld makes a surprise appearence in the opening sequences of For Your Eyes Only. His face is not seen but he is identified by his white Persian cat, his suit and bald head.
He is now in a wheelchair and wears a neckbrace. Bond visits the grave of his murdered wife and has an encounter with Blofeld in a helicopter.
