A Kiwi addition to the Offspring family
New Zealand audiences know him better as rebellious teenager Daniel Potts fromShortland Street, but Ido Drent is about to make his mark internationally as he joins the cast of Offspring.
Born in Pretoria, Ido moved to New Zealand when he only eight years old. He did a little bit of speech and drama at school, but it wasn't until 2007 that he decided he'd like to pursue acting seriously.
Ido has featured in six television commercials and it was while he was doing these he 'caught the acting bug'. Before Ido started at Shortland Street he studied business at university and worked in the property development industry. He also worked for several years as a model in the fashion industry.
In 2010, Ido was nominated in Cleo Magazine's Bachelor of the Year competition, and later that year won The TV Guide's 'Rising Star' award for his time on Shortland Street.
Matt Le Nevez, who plays Patrick Reid, said to Sunshine Coast Daily of his new costar, "He's got such a nice, calming energy& I'm looking forward to all the scenes we shot in the counselling sessions. He's such a great actor. One of the great strengths of Offspring is the diversity of its cast. We have such veterans and great new young talent." Look out for Ido when he hits New Zealand screens in early 2014 for season four of Offspring.
