Tip Top Backstage Blog: Semi Final 4

Not only did we get to see the top five from our Tip Top Natural Talent Search perform in front of our judges, tonight's semi final was bursting with amazing performances. We had a chat to the contestants backstage to find out whether they were feeling Tip Top and ready to sing/dance and flip their hearts out!!

All Star Cheerleaders

Are you excited to be hitting the stage again tonight?

We are so excited! Its going to be great.

If All Star Cheer were a type of ice cream what would they be?

We would be a fruity flavour because we are always really energetic and bright. Plus we have a variety of colour just like a fruit bowl.

How would you incorporate a tub of Tip Top into your routine?

We could do a beach theme, who doesnt like ice cream on a hot summers day?!

Have you been hitting the Tip Top fridge?

Well we have 18 people in our group and one person had SIX within two hours so I dont even want to think about how many we could do!

Any concerns about the lifts after that much ice cream?

(laughs) Yeah we have been holding back for that reason, you dont want to get sick up there on stage!

You were in the semis last year, what are you hoping to do in 2013?

This year we definitely want to get to the Grand Final! Coming back there is more pressure but we know we can do it. We have invented some new moves, more flipping and more craziness!

Cruize Karaitiana

How have you found the attention so far?

Its been crazy! People notice you at the supermarket and stuff. Its really cool though.

If you were an ice cream what kind would you be?

Oooh I think I would be a Memphis Meltdown because Im a bit hard on the outside but a softie on the inside.

If you could bring back any icecream from when you were a kid, what would it be?

It would have to be the Splash, I always wondered where they went.

What are you hoping to get out of being on NZGT?

I came on with the intention of making my family proud, but they reminded me that I had to do it for myself. The goal is to get myself out there so I can do my own songs.

Do you have any artists that you look up to?

I really like James Arthur at the moment, bands like The Script and One Republic.

Who do you want to impress the most tonight?

To be honest, my mum. She is a huge Bruno Mars fan and puts him on such a pedestal. So I just want to do him justice so she can still call me her son!

Rob Innes

What are you looking forward to the most tonight?

Getting it all over and done with (laughs) No, Im looking forward to showing the audience a different side to me and a totally different style.

Was it a surprise to get into the Semi Final?

Sure was, yeah. Im absolutely thrilled, its a real privilege to be back to sing again.

Are you a fan of ice cream?

Oh yeah! Every night I have a bowl of it. Sometimes vanilla, sometimes chocolate, sometimes both!!

If you could assign a flavour to each of the judges what would it be?

Rachel would be strawberry for sure, sweet and very likable. Cris would be caramel, hes fluid especially when he is dancing, smooth moves. And Jason would be Hokey Pokey, a classic Kiwi.

John Vaitale

How excited were you when you got the call that you were in the semi finals?

I didnt believe it! I thought someone was playing a prank on me.

What we expect from your performance tonight?

I want to move away from the shyness that I had in the audition. That was the biggest crowd that I had seen in my life. But today Im going to be more confident and cheeky

Where does the nickname Happy Feet come from?

Well originally in 1769& (laughs) when I have my headphones in, I dance no matter what. Its just me and the music, and thats it. A friend of mine, she said you dance too much, Im going to call you Happy Feet. Now everyone calls me it!

What is it about dancing that you love so much?

(pauses) Its a release, you can have all the struggles in the world but for me dance is the way that I leave this planet. Dancing is just me, its what I do.

Do you have a favourite flavour of ice cream?

Im definitely a Choc Bar and Jelly Tip kind of guy.

If your talent was an ice cream what kind do you think it would be?

I reckon it would be a Choc Bar, you have to dig through it to get to the best part.

Moxie

What have we got in store tonight?

A really fun, upbeat crowd pleaser! We are just going to have loads of fun, sassy and flirty.

If you win, what is the next step?

We will just get started into rehearsals, we have an idea of what we want to do in the Final so make sure you vote us through.

If you could assign an ice cream flavour to each of the judges what would it be?

Jason would have to be a Cappucino Indulgence, Rachel would be something fruity maybe Pink Champagne and Cris Judd would definitely would be Caramel.

Are you nervous at all about the big crowd?

We have a lot of supporter here tonight but because its TV its a little different. We know that the cameras are always watching and picking up angles so we are nervous but we are going to rock it!
