News of a fatal shark attack at Auckland's Muriwai Beach has made headlines around the world.
Husband and father of one Adam Strange died after being attacked while swimming from Maori Bay around a headland into Muriwai, around 200m offshore.
It also featured prominently on the Sydney Morning Herald website this morning.
The UK's tabloid newspaper The Sun reported dramatic scenes where "four great white sharks tore apart a swimmer" and "one dead shark was later dragged ashore".
However, ONE News understands only two sharks were seen at the beach. And aerial searches are taking place this morning in search of the shark involved in the attack.
An emotional ceremony was held at Muriwai Beach this morning.
Family and friends gathered as local iwi cleansed the area where Strange's body was pulled from the water.
