Police say the public were not in any danger when a huge arsenal of weapons and ammunition was discovered in South Auckland.
About 45 high-powered rifles and shotguns were found at an Otahuhu property after police were called to a domestic incident about 9.30pm Wednesday.
Bags of live ammunition of compatible types and calibres were also found.
The firearms were correctly secured and public safety was not at risk, police say.
A 70-year-old who allegedly threatened to use the weapons is being questioned and will face a range of firearms charges, they say.
The weapons were seized and police are seeking to permanently confiscate them.
Police have ruled out any gang involvement.
