The parents of a New Zealander allegedly murdered in Bali are on their way to Indonesia.
Twenty-five year old Jordan Lucas' body was found naked by a fisherman on Uluwatu Beach, a popular surf beach in Bali, last week.
He had blunt force trauma to the head, and police suspect he has been murdered.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said his parents, Julie and Graham Lucas, are being provided with consular assistance. They will be identifying their son's body upon arrival.
Friends back home are mourning the loss of a talented young man.
"He was an outdoorsy sort of guy growing up. His folks lived on farms. He was a typical Kiwi boy, loved riding motorbikes," said family friend Rob Kirkwood.
"We're all very shocked and devastated to hear about this tragic news. He's a great guy and he'll be missed terribly."
Uluwatu Beach is notoriously difficult to surf. Just last week a local man was killed in the waves.
But Kirkwood told ONE News that Lucas, a builder, was a competent surfer and had been to Bali a number of times.
"Bali to Jordan was paradise," Kirkwoood said. "He loved it and surfed there a lot. He loved the Balinese people and loved being in Bali and looked forward to going there as many winters as he could."
The Ministry said the cause of death had not yet been determined, but they are working with Indonesian police.
Lucas' family has requested privacy.
