Graduates from a fake security school in Auckland paid hundreds in fees only to discover their qualifications are worthless.
ONE News can reveal the Commerce Commission are investigating Genesis Eight International College of Security founder Maryanne Vaafusuaga, otherwise known as Maryanne McKenzie, after investigations revealed the school was not registered with NZQA.
Students paid several hundred dollars for the 26- week-course that drew from plagiarised material from legitimate education providers Wintec and TSSL.
One student, who did not want to be named, told ONE News that McKenzie had promised they would be working for the Rugby World Cup.
Instead, they sold life insurance and organised fundraising socials during the duration of the course.
"She gave us a lot of tickets, like 30, $10 a ticket. If we didn't sell the tickets then we had to pay for it ourselves," the student told ONE News.
"I didn't sell any tickets so i had to pay $300".
Vaafasuaga told students she intends to set up another course in New Zealand, as well as another in Samoa this year.
