Crushed cars are going on display in central Auckland in the pursuit of safety.
The New Zealand Transport Agency has deliberately crashed cars to encourage drivers to buy safer vehicles.
Spokesman Andy Knackstedt says it is estimated the road toll could be reduced by a third if everyone drove five-star safety rated cars.
He says the display shows the damage sustained by a three-star rated car and a five-star vehicle, and how each occupant of the car would have fared in a crash.
They will be on display at Aotea Square from today until Thursday.
