How Clean Is Your House

'Natural' cleaners

Here are some of the 'home remedies' featured in the show for better cleaning:

Deodoriser: Baking Soda - a great deodoriser (mix with water to wipe surfaces in the fridge)

Disinfectant - It's all about White Vinegar! Dilute in a spray bottle with 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water.  This is a natural disinfectant as well as a deodorizer and is also a great glass/mirror cleaner.

Mould: White vinegar mixed with disinfectant (equal parts) is a good way to get rid of mould. The white vinegar is a mild acid and a natural disinfectant so it's safe to use on most surfaces (NB: Don't use brown vinegar or your house will smell like a fish and chip shop but with white vinegar the smell will quickly disappear).

Grubby surfaces: Cream of tartar - this is a mild acid salt used in cooking but it makes a great cleaner too. Mix a few heaped teaspoonful in some warm water and you've got a low cost, eco friendly cleanser - great for grubby surfaces.

Floors: Olive Oil & Lemon are great for cleaning floors (a diluted mixture of  equal parts lemon juice and equal parts olive oil - the lemon juice disinfectants and the oil gives it a nice sheen)

Oven cleaner: A cup of salt, a cup of baking soda and then make a paste with water and coat around the surfaces of the oven.  Then close the oven door and heat it up to 200 and leave it for 10 minutes. Come back, and by then everything would have started activating. Let it cool down for a moment or two and then wipe it down with a damp cloth.
