The Ministry of Health says dozens of schools have opted out of the cervical cancer immunisation programme.
Seventy eight schools, which make up 5% of those eligible, have
decided not to offer girls the vaccination, part of a programme
worth over $170 million.
The ministry says some of those schools will be from rural areas
where it's not logistical to take part.
The vaccination has been controversial, with the ministry reporting
close to 80 adverse reactions to it.
The Women's Health Action is calling for an urgent review of the programme and says other schools believe there wasn't enough good information available.
The figures exclude Canterbury, which does not have a school based programme.
