Astar's Craft: Flowers for the Christmas Table
With Astar
Flowers for the Christmas Table
I'm making this now using artificial flowers berries and foliage
and will incorporate fresh lilies or roses a day or two before
Christmas
This design would look lovely either on a table as a centre piece
or on the sideboard or perhaps on a table at the front door
Things to gather
I'm using a plastic 'classic' urn which I've spray painted
black
Wet floral foam to fill
Trails of ivy, ferns, apples, berries, spray berry picks,
succulents etc
Moss
Red or white flowers of your choice
Floral wire - gauge 20
Large pillar candle
Method
Once the foam has been soaked firmly insert down into the
container.
This design is my take on a classic round posy of flowers, but with
a twist. When finished it should be loose and casual in
appearance with lots of highs and lows + lovely informal groupings
of gathered materials.
Take the trails of ivy and surround the rim of the container.
Pull some of the trails out so that they cascade to soften the
sides of urn. Use wire clips to hold all in place.
Insert the berry picks to extend beyond sides of container. These
could be placed in groups or evenly positioned around base on top
and amongst ivy.
Place candle into centre of urn.
Insert in clustered groups some of the berries.
Continue placing all flowers and foliage until there is no foam
showing.
