Astar's Craft: Appliqué Hand Towels
Things to gather:
Plain undressed white hand/face/bath towels
Printed fabric in a design to embellish towels
Iron on fabric stiffener/fusing fabric
Template in a size and design to suit - say initials, hearts/ flowers etc
Broderie anglaise trim (optional)
Sewing machine or needle and embroidery thread to hand stitch and fix design onto towel
Iron printed fabric to remove any wrinkles.
Take a warm iron and fuse printed fabric onto fusing fabric. Fusing comes with instructions, check iron temperatures before starting and make sure you fuse to the rough or sticky surface as it will stick to iron and it's the hardest stuff to remove.
Once set and cold. Use the template to trace around design, before cutting.
Pin to bottom portion of towel, then either use the sewing machine to zigzag into place or hand stitch using the embroidery cotton.
To further dress - decorate lower edge of towel with a narrow cotton broderie anglaise trimming.
Press raw edge of trim over, and then measure required length of trim across bottom edge of towel. Add a cm at each end to turn over and make neat. Pin to bottom of towel, before stitching into place.
