Indian peach and pear relish

Makes: 8

1.5 kg pears (chopped, leave skins on)
1.5 kg peaches (chopped, leave skins on)
145g chopped onions
4 cloves garlic (sliced)
1 pkt currants
1/2 pkt raisins
50g ginger
85g plain salt
2.7 kg sugar
3 Tbsp molasses
2 1/2 pints malt vinegar
1-2 Tbsp cayenne pepper or fresh chopped chillies
1 Tbsp citric acid
Clean jars


Add all but the citric acid to a pot.  Bring to boil stirring all the time, then reduce heat and simmer for around 2 1/2 to 3 hours until mix is thickish.

Allow to cool, before adding 1 tbsp citric acid.

Bottle then label.

This relish recipe has been around since 1931 and is a family favourite. 

Fabulous with a curry.
