As anyone in the Flipside team can tell you, Ollie is fascinated by anything with moving parts. Constantly tinkering and pulling things apart (usually to the point where they can't be put back together), it's no surprise that he usually gets landed with the technology stories on Flipside.
As a reporter on the show, Ollie gets to indulge many of his other interests as well, such as politics, human rights, and the arts. But there's no questioning his love for technology and the music industry.
When choosing a career (of which Ollie has had a few) he combined his love of music and buttons to study in the area of audio engineering and music production. But alas he never had the chance to work in this field as he was quickly snatched up by the glamorous world of theatre and stage production soon after graduating.
It wasn't until 2001 that Ollie set about pursuing a career in broadcasting. He started at the bottom, for no pay, and worked as a newsreader for the then fledging George FM. Persistence, however, pays off, and it wasn't long before Ollie and his brother in broadcasting, Dave Gibson, (now of Elemeno P) were handed the breakfast show to make their own. As much as he loved being able to finally combine his love of music and buttons, he eventually moved on from George FM to further establish himself in the world of broadcasting.
Taking what he had learnt from radio and by way of being in the right place at the right time, Ollie was asked to audition for a new show on TV2 to be called Flipside, and after a few months of interviews was eventually offered the role as reporter.
"I love being a part of Flipside and working with such a dedicated and creative team. I get to interview some of the most interesting people in the world, and tell people about issues and events that I actually care about."
