Am I Obese or Overweight?
Are YOU obese or overweight?
By calculating your BMI (Body Mass Index) you can find out if you are overweight or obese.
BMI is a good indication of fatness but it isn't perfect. In New Zealand we have a wide range of cultures and therefore body types.
Polynesians tend to have bigger builds than Pakeha so if a
Polynesian and a Pakeha had the same BMI, the Polynesian may have
less actual fat than the Pakeha. This is explained further on page
51 of the
Food and Nutritional Guidelines .
To work out your BMI take your weight in kilograms and divide it by your height in meters squared, or enter your details into the calculator at http://nutrition.otago.ac.nz/calcbmi.php
A table can be found on page 51 of the Ministry of Health Food and
Nutritional Guidelines for you to work out if you are at risk
of developing weight related problems.
