About the books

Introduced by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, this is a unique series of highly original and elegant gift books that take inspiration from ubuntu and are each founded on the work and example of one of the 20th centurys most remarkable humanitarians.

Ubuntu is a traditional African ideology which, roughly translated, means humanity towards others. Each book features a biographic essay and combines the best available photographs with first-person text quotations from the chosen individuals speeches and writings that reflect the spirit of ubuntu.

Royalties from sales of Ubuntu books will be shared by the Tygerberg Childrens Hospital and Philani Clinic in Cape Town, South Africa on behalf of Archbishop Desmond Tutu; The Navajivan Trust, founded by Gandhi to further his work among the people of India; and the Estate of Martin Luther King, Jr.
