This New Zealand documentary examines the events of the Wahine ferry disaster on April 10 th 1968. Through the stories and memories of passengers and crew who survived this deadly night the documentary plots the course of Cyclone Giselle and the events of the night and day that it took for the ferry to crash on Barrett Reef and finally sink in Wellington Harbour, with the loss of 51 lives.
This documentary provides a new look at the disaster by concentrating on some of the survivors and their day of horror, together with animation which illustrates, for the first time, how the Wahine succumbed in a terrible storm, to become one of New Zealand's worst sea tragedies.
