John Michie plays Karl Munro
John Michie (born 25 October 1956) plays Karl Munro on Coronation Street.
John was born in Burma and raised in Kenya until he was 12 years old, when his family relocated to the UK. He lived in Edinburgh, Scotland until he was 22 years old.
Aged 22, John returned to Kenya. It was here he made his stage debut, appearing in A Private Matter at the Donovan Maule Theatre, Nairobi.
John’s career has involved work on stage and screen (with both film and television roles). He’s also done voiceover work and some television presenting.
Like many of his co-stars, Coronation Street is not John’s first foray into soap. He’s appeared in the now-defunct soap Albion Market (in 1985) and London Bridge (in 1996), as well as a guest role in EastEnders (in 1998).
Hes also appeared in a number of long-running and highly successful British shows including Casualty, Lovejoy, Heartbeat, The Bill, Dalziel & Pascoe and Wire In The Blood.
John is well-known to many for his long-running role in detective drama Taggart; he played DI Robbie Ross from 1998 until the show ended in 2010.
John and his partner have three children.
