Close Up reporter Jehan Casinader is based in Wellington, but will find any excuse to chase stories in other parts of the country.
Before joining Close Up, Jehan spent four years freelancing for national newspapers and magazines, and was a Qantas Media Awards finalist twice for feature writing.
He has also reported for Breakfast, Asia Down Under and Tagata Pasifika. Foreign assignments have taken him to Egypt, the Solomon Islands and New York, with stories about tsunami relief, child abuse, tourism, and everything in between.
Jehan now covers stories closer to home, with a special interest in social issues, education and property. In 2010, his Close Up investigation into child support and youth benefits led to a policy change. Jehan has also reported on the abuse of student loans, a policing crisis in Hawke's Bay, and the waste of $400 million worth of abandoned schools, hospitals and land.
In his spare time, Jehan enjoys checking out new music, new places to eat and drink, and new people to have a yarn with.
