Home improvement retailer Mitre 10 says it is moving into a new growth phase and plans to open another 10 mega stores by the end of next year.
The family-owned co-operative just appointed a new CEO, John Hartmann, who brings his experience from leading US retailer Home Depot.
Hartman told NZI Business on Tuesday morning that he thinks the board intends to bring in a new fresh set of eyes and someone with a different set of experiences.
"There's certainly things we can bring from the home improvement market in North America to serve our customers here," he says.
Since 2004 23 megastores have opened around the country.
"It's the opportunity for us to serve our customers with a larger range of products and services in the mega format in 10 locations we plan to open in the next 18 months," says Hartman.
Hartman says that it's a competitive sector but things are still picking up.
