2009 Week 7: Burgers


Burgers

Ingredients:
350gm extra lean beef / lamb
70 gm breadcrumbs (preferably Vogels or similar dense bread)
1 small onion 
1/4 cup fresh chopped coriander
2 Tbsp barbecue sauce / chutney / tomato sauce
2 eggs
8 wholemeal rolls / buns,
10 large lettuce leaves
4 large tomatoes
1 ripe avocado
Optional: hard boiled eggs, sliced beetroot, cheese

Instructions:
Turn on barbecue or grill.

Finely chop onion and blanch in hot water.

Combine minced meat, onion, breadcrumbs, raw eggs, seasoning and sauce into a sticky mixture. Form into round balls, place on grill / bbq and flatten slightly with a fork. Grill for several minutes each side until cooked through (not pink inside).

Split bun in half and lightly toast.

Spread bottom half of bun with more sauce / chutney and place cooked patty inside. Top with lettuce, gerkins, tomato and avocado and top half of bun.

Serve with a side dish of your choice.

You may wish to use chicken or fish instead of beef mince.
