Blood lust
Vampires - do they really exist? Movies like
Twilight and TV shows
like True Blood have made vampires popular again. You might think
vampires are just works of fiction, but they really do walk amongst
us. In downtown Auckland lives a woman who likes to feed on human
blood! In suburban Christchurch lives a man who sleeps in a coffin.
No, they're not actors. They are real life Kiwis - nocturnal
creatures of the night. They're out there and they could be living
next door to you...
Hillbilly hell hole
Deep in the Appalachia Mountains - that's hillbilly country - live
the descendents of Davey Crockett, Daniel Boone Loretta Lynn and
Patsy Cline. They are fighters steeped in family ferocity and
faith. They are also counted amongst America's poorest.
Toothlessness, alcoholism, incest, prescription drug abuse, it's
all part and parcel of everyday life. The odds of escaping this
hillbilly hell hole are horrendous, but Shawn Grim, a football
superstar, is determined. We all love triumph over adversity
stories, but the perfect ending can sometimes be heartbreaking.
Hollywood High
Why do stars fall into the trap of alcohol and drug addiction?
Lately it seems as though more and more celebrities are making
headlines for the wrong reasons - some of them are dying and some
are heading off to rehab. Daniel Baldwin went from actor to addict.
For more than 18 years he battled a cocaine addiction. Now he's
staying sober by helping others go clean. 20/20 cameras are there
as Baldwin performs a surprising and remarkable intervention on a
troubled 22-year old.
A good heart
A boy, born with his heart on the outside, defies the odds. Doctors
feared Christopher Wall would not live beyond one day. He was born
with all the right parts, except that one of them was in the wrong
place. His heart was beating outside his body. This was more than a
medical rarity. It was a mystery. Yet somehow, defying logic and
expert opinion, Christopher has survived.
A stitch in time
A gruesome knitting impalement uncovers a lethal threat! An
unthinkable setback can sometimes be a blessing in disguise. Ellin
Klor was off to her knitting club at a friend's house when she
tripped on the step. The pain in her chest became impossible to
ignore. She lifted her shirt and saw a knitting needle sticking out
of her chest. The needle had impaled Klor's heart. It was a
horrible freak accident but also a cosmic roll of the dice that
saved her life...
