Wildfires burn close to homes on La Palma - Source: Reuters
Four thousand tourists and residents have been evacuated from their homes as wildfires rage on the island of La Palma, in Spain's Canary Islands.
Strong winds have been fanning the flames, forcing ground based firefighters to pull back and additional emergency workers have been brought in from the Spanish mainland.
It is believed a stray firework may have sparked the fire, but arson has not been ruled out.
It comes at the height of the holiday season in the island, whose economy depends on tourism.
At least eight people have been killed by fires in mainland Spain this summer, as much of the country bakes in temperatures of well over 30 degrees Celsius.
More than 4,000 firefighters have been deployed throughout the country and authorities have arrested 51 people accused of lighting fires.
