Toyota is writing to all 260 owners of its 2009 Prius, assuring them it has complete confidence in the vehicle's braking performance.

The company's New Zealand Chief Executive, Alistair Davis, says some customers in the US and Japan have reported a slight delay in braking reaction on some surfaces .

He says, if the driver applies light pressure over a slippery patch and the ABS cuts in, there is a slight delay in pedal feel.

If the driver brakes harder the car will stop, but Davis says the momentary delay could be disconcerting.

Davis says Toyota is making minor changes to new vehicles being produced, and is considering whether changes need to be made to those already on the road.
