A strong earthquake has struck off West Sumatra in Indonesia, but there was no tsunami alert issued or immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The epicentre of the 6.5 magnitude quake was 165 km west of Bengkulu at a depth of 22 km, according to the US Geological Survey.
"There is no tsunami warning because it was below 7.0," a quake agency spokesman says, adding that the quake had been felt in Bengkulu and Padang but not strongly.
Another official at the disaster management agency says there were no immediate reports of damage.
Indonesia frequently suffers earthquakes and there is a major fault line running just off the coast of Sumatra.
More than 1,000 people died after a powerful quake hit the city of Padang last September.
The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that struck further north on Sumatra island killed 170,000 people in Aceh province alone.
