A sixth person has died in Thailand in circumstances similar to Kiwi Sarah Carter.
Carter, 23, died in Thailand's second largest city Chiang Mai in February while two of her friends became seriously ill after eating at a market place.
The death was initially blamed on toxic seaweed Carter had eaten, but this was later disputed.
Thai officials held a press conference in Chiang Mai last week but they still could not confirm the cause of death for Carter.
A few days after Carter died, a British couple, believed to be in their 70s, checked into the same hotel and were found dead in their rooms more than a week later.
An autopsy was being carried out on the pair, but police said there was no evidence of fighting or an attack.
Media reports from Thailand suggested they both died of heart attacks at the same time.
It has now emerged that Carter's death was one of six mystery deaths in as many weeks in the popular tourist area.
The latest death reported was that of a French woman who died between January 9 and February 4 after she and her travelling companion got sick visiting the same city.
Thai authorities said they cannot say for sure that food poisoning was the cause of death.
Thailand's Disease Control Department has asked the World Health Organisation to help examine the deaths.
The New Zealand government said last week it was unhappy with the explanation offered by Thai health authorities that the deaths were a coincidence.
Carter's friend Amanda Eliason, 24, from Kaponga in Taranaki, underwent emergency surgery as a toxin also attacked her heart. She's said to be recovering well.
Their other friend Emma Langlands, 23, was not in as serious a condition.
Police have said they were looking into all the deaths although there was no indication they were linked.
