The Red Cross is warning that it could take years to rebuild Samoa following its devastating tsunami in September.

A powerful earthquake sent walls of water crashing onto beaches in south east Upolu, killing 143 people.

The aid organisation says it is developing a long term relief and recovery programme, which will be funded by the $2.6 million in government, public and corporate donations.

The programme will focus on reconstruction, health care, psychosocial support and education over the threat of natural disasters.
