Prime Minister John Key has just landed in Sydney as he attempts to build a closer relationship with our neighbours.
The state of the world finance as well as regional issues and a push for a greater economic union between the countries is set to dominate talks with his Australian counterpart Kevin Rudd.
It is the second time the pair have met since Key has been Prime Minister.
There are several areas where Key hopes to make progress towards greater economic union with Australia.
The first being climate change, where there is talk of having both countries adopt similar Emissions Trading Schemes.
Key believes it does not make much sense for a company operating in both countries to be subject to different schemes, therefore greater harmony between the two countries on climate change policy will be discussed.
The other step towards closer union between the countries is easier access of travel. There is talk of pushing the idea that a flight between Australia and New Zealand should be treated like a domestic flight, which mean reducing the hurdles that passengers have to go through currently.
The topic has been talked about before but it is understood Key will give it a prime ministerial push as around one million New Zealanders travel to Australia each year and about a million go the other way.
Key says he will also be extending New Zealand's condolences to Rudd on the terrible bushfire tragedy in Victoria.
The Prime Minister will have dinner with Rudd and some Australian business leaders on Sunday night, before the formal talks take place on Monday.
