Shocking images of Reeva Steenkamp's dead body were accidentally displayed in court, as gruesome crime scene photos were shown as evidence in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial.
The most graphic image was a close up photo of Reeva Steenkamp's head with a bullet wound, which drew audible gasps from the crowd in court.
"Instantly there was a noise, a gasp, shrieks... from people who saw [the photos] and couldn't believe what was in front of them because this was something that no one really should have seen," says Channel 9 reporter Tom Steinfort who is covering the case in Pretoria.
Steinfort also says friends of Ms Steenkamp were "irate" and approached the bench immediately to ask why the images were displayed to the public.
Pistorius, who had been physically sick in court during the trial, was handed a bucket as soon as the image was displayed and was repeatedly ill.
Court was adjourned for half an hour, the first time proceedings have been stopped, with many people in court clearly shaken by the unsettling images.
The trial of the man know as Blade Runner has captured worldwide attention with hundreds of journalists from around the world covering the case.
The Olympian and double-amputee faces a possible life sentence if convicted of murder.
