A woman has admitted murdering the great-grandson of former Maori Affairs Minister Koro Wetere.
The body of 22-month-old Kayden Wetere was found in Perth harbour in 2010.
His mother Gemma Killeen was set to go on trial next week but she confessed during a brief court appearance today.
Killeen, 23, pleaded guilty in the West Australian Supreme Court to murdering her toddler.
Even before Killeen had opened her mouth to utter one, almost inaudible word most in the court knew how she would plea and tears were already falling as the judge entered the room.
Sobbing quietly and dressed all in black, Killeen softly replied "guilty" when asked to plea by WA Supreme Court Justice Lindy Jenkins on Friday.
And then she sat down, wiping another tear from her black-smudged eyes.
Killeen was arrested shortly after the body of her 22-month-old son was found floating in Hillarys Boat Harbour on November 26, 2010.
The young mother had earlier reported her child missing to police before the body was found.
Sentencing has been set for April 20.
