Kiwis can be proud of the New Zealand firefighters who helped battle bushfires in Victoria, the Internal Affairs Minister says.
Chris Tremain recently visited the team of 66 Kiwi firefighters who have spent the past two weeks battling fires in the Ovens and Bright mountain areas in Victoria and said the experience they have gained is invaluable.
Deputy Premier of Victoria Peter Ryan was "highly complimentary" of the New Zealand firefighters and thanked all New Zealanders, Tremain said.
He added that Victoria USAR teams were among the first to help out in Christchurch following the February 22 earthquake, and "it's great to be able to return the favour".
"I have nothing but praise for our deployment of fire fighters who have done our nation proud."
