Man accidentally ejects himself from jet

Source:

A passenger in a South African air force jet found himself hurtling through the sky after inadvertently pulling the eject lever of his rocket-powered seat.

The Guardian reported that the man failed to obey the principle of not fiddling with switches or controls in the back seat of the plane and ended up hurtling out of the cockpit, smashing through the canopy after grabbing the black and yellow stripped handle between his legs.

The South African air force confirmed that the incident, which caused the man to be blasted 100 metres into the sky, took place last week.

The Guardian reported that the man was on a flight with an experienced pilot from South Africa's Silver Falcons air display team.

Investigators assume the man was trying to steady himself by grabbing the leaver while the jet was being put through its paces.

The passenger was lucky to have survived with barely a scratch.
